Jonathan Brooks is an award winning Photographer/Visual Artist, whose work has been exhibited in Miami, NYC, Amsterdam, France, Germany, Greece, Scotland, and the UK.
Brooks’ recent work was just awarded the Coral Gables Museum's inaugural acquisition prize as they begin to collect art, and is being considered for Art In Public Places projects in Miami Shores. and the Miami-Dade county Civil and Probate Courthouse acquisition program.
The Visual Artist will have his Palmas Y Cafe exhibit at the beginning of 2023 at The First National Bank of South Miami's Wirtz Gallery. And is thrilled to announce his acceptance of exhibit into The University of Michigan’s Gifts of Art Exhibition Program at Michigan Medicine for the 2022/23 exhibit year at the U-M Rogel Cancer Center March 13 - June 2, 2023.
Brooks worked for Eastman Kodak during their transition from analog to digital. His photographs have been published in numerous magazines, anthologies, and periodicals. And his Photos have been featured in major movies (Mike & Dave Need Wedding Dates, and Uncle Drew), the Emmy nominated short film series celebrating the 50th anniversary of National Endowment for the Arts- United States Of Art, and television shows (Oprah Network's David Makes Man, Bravo TV's reality show Southern Charm, The CW's The Vampire Diaries, and Germany’s Only Love Counts).
Brooks’ palm, botanical, and street images have been used as set decor on The Oprah Winfrey Network’s coming -of-age drama series David Makes Man, from Oscar-winning Moonlight co-writer Tarell Alvin McCraney and starring The Cosby Show’s Phylicia Rashad. His No Vacancy image has also been set decor in cast member Seth Rose’s home on Bravo TV’s Southern Charm reality show. And images from his Palm series were used as set decor in the 2018 Summer motion picture Uncle Drew starring NBA superstar Kyrie Irving’s Pepsi commercial character.
Brooks has participated in the prestigious Artist In Residency at the Deering Estate for their 2016-2017 cycle. Also in 2017, he attended his second Creative Capital Foundation's Professional Development Program Workshop, a partnership with the Florida Department of Cultural Affairs. The foundation began as an initiative of the Andy Warhol Foundation and invests in artists who shape the future. It was funded by The National Endowment for the Arts.
In 2016, Brooks' work was included in the Emmy nominated 50th Anniversary video highlighting the impact of National Endowment for the Arts and he was part of the At Home With Art Exhibit at the Miami Home And Remodeling Show as one of their Ambassador Artists. That same year his work was used as decor in a 20TH Century Fox film starring Anna Kendrick and Zac Efron, and in 2015 displayed at The Louvre last summer.
His SKULL Series was featured on the I Could Never Love Like That episode of the CW Network's hugely popular award winning series The Vampire Diaries in 2015. And you can find some of his art at West Elm, Pottery Barn Teen, and Minted.
Brooks graduated magna cum laude with a BS degree double major in Advertising and Fine Art Photography and a minor in Marketing from the University of Miami. His studies in graphic design and architecture, and extensive backgrounds in the fashion industry and music industry have also helped to influence his work. He has numerous photography exhibitions to his credit and is currently working on his next.
His image Over The Rainbow was one of Digital Photo Magazine's Your Greatest Street Scenes 2018 and was awarded the Best In Show 2014 Photo Of The Year at the inaugural Miami Photo Salon Festival during Miami's prestigious Art Week. At the beginning of the same week, his image Love Floats won Talenthouse's Creative Invite "Photograph your perfect moment of love,“ where it was featured on the exciting German TV primetime show 'Nur die Liebe zählt' (Only Love Counts), hosted by German SAT.1 Television.
In July 2013, his photography was featured on one of the biggest billboards in Time Square, taking over the entire 25-story-tall massive digitally animated billboard. And at the end of 2013, as a Top Ten Finalist in Digital Photo Pro and HD Video Pro Magazine's 7th Annual Emerging Pro Still and Motion Competition, where he finished his first short film 5 SKULLS on a then yet to be released to the market Red camera.
He also the author of the self-published The True Cuba book that was funded on Kickstarter.com.

It was inspired by the controversial book Vamos a Cuba (Let's Go to Cuba) that was pulled from the public school's library system by the Miami-Dade School Board in 2006 for its inaccurate portrayal of Cuba and whose legal battle ended on the steps of the U.S. Supreme Court in 2009.
